Universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments, can be used in any equipment type and provide smaller bonuses than those that are equipment type specific to the type of equipment. However, item upgrader can reduce this cost by purchasing upgrades from a merchant, or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be upgraded using the use of a prefix upgrade like an insignia or a rune, and a lot of them can be upgraded with a suffix upgrade. These upgrades include an adjective in the item's name, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful tool to communicate visual information. They move to grab the viewer's eye and entice curiosity. The glyphs' animation mimics the body language, making them more effective in communicating a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs can also increase the recall of a message by evoking a familiarity in the brain.
Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a certain range. This is shown on the item, when you open it in the Glyph Storage. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier as well as the quality of the item you are enchanting.
The majority of upgrade components added to items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it's not been applied to the gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
